Moving out can be a long and complicated process for tenants. We have put together a guide that covers any crucial steps you may have overlooked.
Minor Repairs
Don’t forget to take care of any decorative damage to the walls that may have been caused by using pins, nails, tape, command strips, blu tack, etc.
Utilities
Remember to close your utility accounts on the last day of your tenancy. If you can, take some pictures of your meter readings. If they’re not accessible, don’t worry, we’ll take some and include the photos in your move-out report. You will need final readings in order to close your accounts. If you are in a bills included property, you are not required to do this.
You will need to inform Manchester City Council that you are no longer living at the property, even if you are exempt from paying Council Tax.
Change of Address
Possibly the most common thing to forget! Remember to re-direct your post at least 1 week before leaving. While we do keep an eye out for mail in the communal areas, we will just return it to the sender if any post is left/delivered after you move out. Royal Mail offer a postal redirect service which can help. Please find a list below of contacts likely to comm unicate via post (some of these may send letters containing sensitive information also).

Other Helpful Tips
Don’t forget to take your broadband router with you when you go as your provider will charge you if you don’t return it. They will send a returns pack to you in the post so please let them know your new address!
You’ll need to replace any consumables such as lightbulbs and batteries. If the bulbs that were working when you moved in have gone, you will need to replace them. If you are unsure which bulb you need, please let us know. Remember to replace any batteries in smoke/carbon monoxide alarms if they have run out or if the alarm is beeping!
At the start of your tenancy you would have been provided with a mattress protector. Please ensure this is left in the property. Don’t worry about laundering it as we will have them professionally cleaned.
We understand that some of you may experience a gap in between tenancies and may be worried about where to store your items. Please find below some companies in Manchester that offer storage facilities that may be helpful.
